Creating a customizable web application – Introduction

Intention

The new web application trends and leading to make some companies to create channels to access their data or business rules in a customized way. They are called vertical channels, portals ,mashups, etc. In some of those channels there is only needed some individualized design, but in some others there is a deeper need. Sometimes it is about filter of contents, sometimes it is about some control about functionalities to let use different functions depending on what clients have purchased.

In the last companies I have worked I had to deal with this issue. We had to think about how to create this kind of application, taking account that there is a preexistent application. Since every existent application can be different, I will write about the creation of a new project with this requirements.
In this serie of articles I am going to analyze this kind of project step by step, showing all the analysis and development process and mistakes. Once finished I will create a tutorial with all the conclusions.

I already have some ideas about how to front this kind of development, but I have not analyzed it deeply. You will be able to see all the learning process, and collaborate with your own ideas or corrections to achieve a good solution.

Prerequisites

To understand those articles, I assume that the reader has knowledge about Web development. Maybe it will be needed some Dessign Patterns knowledge.
